Somalia’s armed forces commander, Major General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, has visited soldiers receiving treatment for wounds sustained in operations against Al-Shabaab, the Defence Ministry said on Thursday.

The visit took place at the Somali National Armed Forces Hospital. According to the ministry, the commander spoke individually with wounded personnel about their health and offered support during their recovery.

Medical officers briefed him on the soldiers’ conditions and the treatment being provided. The ministry’s statement, published on 29 October, described the visit as an opportunity for the commander to meet personnel injured during military operations and hear directly from those responsible for their care.

Mohamud praised the soldiers’ service and the risks taken by armed forces personnel in defending the country and its institutions, the statement said. Photographs released by the ministry accompanied its account of the hospital visit.

The ministry did not identify the operations in which the soldiers were wounded or give the number receiving treatment.
