These standards guide reporting, analysis and contributions published by The Daily Somalia.
Accuracy and evidence
Reporting should distinguish confirmed facts, attributed claims and information that has not been independently verified. Figures, quotations and public documents should be checked against their original sources where available.
Attribution and sources
Credit reporting, photographs, documents and other material to their sources. Link to public supporting documents where appropriate. When a source is not named, explain the reason where it is safe to do so.
News, analysis and opinion
News reporting presents events and developments. Analysis examines their context. Opinion expresses an author’s argument or judgement. These forms of work should be labelled clearly.
Fairness and response
People and organisations facing substantive allegations should have a reasonable opportunity to respond. Reporting should make clear when a response has been requested, received or not provided.
Corrections and updates
Factual errors should be corrected promptly. Material corrections should carry a note explaining what changed. Publication dates should remain accurate, and substantial updates should be identified. Routine formatting changes should not be presented as new reporting.
To request a correction, email info@dailysomalia.com with the article URL, the passage in question and supporting information.
Images and documents
Images and documents should be presented with accurate context. Editing must not change the meaning of evidence. Illustrations and other material that could be mistaken for documentary imagery should be identified.
Commercial material and conflicts
Paid or sponsored material must be labelled clearly. Contributors should disclose interests relevant to their work so that readers can assess it with the necessary context.
