President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud has appointed Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur “Americo” as the new Director General of Mogadishu Port, effective August 3, 2025. The appointment comes as the Federal Government of Somalia continues efforts to modernize critical infrastructure and strengthen the national economy.
Ambassador Americo has extensive diplomatic and leadership experience. He previously served as Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, where he played a key role in re-establishing the Somali Embassy in Nairobi. He is also the founder of the Yasmin Foundation, established in 2010 to promote education and community development.
His work reflects a strong record of institution building, partnership development, and service to both governance and society.Leadership PrioritiesIn his first address to staff, Ambassador Americo emphasized transparency, collaboration, and accountability as guiding principles for his leadership.

He also stressed the importance of enhancing revenue collection and ensuring that the port contributes to national development.Ambassador Americo expressed his ambition to see Mogadishu Port become “the number one port in Africa,” highlighting discipline, professionalism, and partnership as central to this vision.
Mogadishu Port remains the country’s largest entry point for goods and a cornerstone of the Somali economy. The appointment has been welcomed by members of the business community, who note that Ambassador Americo’s experience and reputation for integrity could help strengthen trust, improve efficiency, and reduce corruption in port operations.
