Somali Government Faces Allegations of Interference in $150 Million World Bank Solar Project.

Allegations have emerged that officials from the Somali Federal Government, particularly from the Presidential Office and the Ministry of Water & Energy, are attempting to manipulate the tendering process for a World Bank-funded project. The $150 million project, granted under Grant Number D931-SO and Project ID No. P173088, aims to install affordable solar energy in various institutions across Somalia.

The tender process was initially open to all interested companies, with several firms submitting bids. However, sources claim that the Somali government is trying to interfere by favoring two specific companies, effectively compromising the evaluation process. This interference raises concerns about the credibility of the selected contractors and whether they genuinely meet the tender’s requirements.

Critics warn that such manipulation could lead to the misappropriation of funds and undermine the project’s goal of providing sustainable energy to Somali communities.
