The strategy for success: Key steps to defeat ISIS

OP-ED by Abdullahi Rubaani: Puntland’s fight against ISIS requires more than just military force. Here are 6 key strategies to eradicate the group: #Somalia #ISIS

• Targeting Leadership
  Eliminating top ISIS leaders weakens its command & disrupts its operations. Leadership decapitation is crucial for dismantling terrorist networks.
• Cutting Off Finances
  ISIS funds itself through extortion & illegal trade. Stronger financial monitoring & intelligence are needed to shut down these networks.
• Good Governance
  Extremists exploit grievances. Strengthening local services—healthcare, education & security—prevents ISIS from filling the gaps.
• Stopping Recruitment
  ISIS preys on youth. Anti-radicalization programs & defectors’ reintegration initiatives can weaken their influence.
• Regional & International Cooperation
  Puntland must work with Ethiopia, Somalia’s federal government & global partners to share intelligence & cut ISIS’s foreign support.
• Defeating ISIS is possible. But it requires sustained efforts & strategic action.
